Good afternoon Woodson Wave Families, this is Liz Berry with some updates for the week. A huge shout-out goes to our 4th grade teacher, Ms. Janise Bell. She is dedicated to the students she teachers in 4th grade. She also runs our after school tutoring program and does a fabulous job with it. Thank you Ms. Bell.
This week is our Book Fair week at WES and is through Scholastic Book Fairs. The book fair will be open daily as well as Thursday Night during our annual Royal Engagement Night from 5-7pm. Students are invited to visit the Book Fair during their specials each day. All checks should be made to Woodson Elementary School. Cash is also accepted. We also encourage you to check out the eWallet option which is available online. This allows your child to shop without worrying about losing their money. Don’t forget to include 6% sales tax for your purchase.
We will also be celebrating “Read Across America Week” at WES. We will have themed dress days, which are free. If students do not dress in theme, they should wear their uniforms. Monday, February 27th, “Hats off to Reading”- wear a favorite hat, hair accessory or crazy hair, with your uniform. Tuesday, February 28th, “Exercise Your Mind with Reading”, wear a sports shirt. Wednesday, March 1st, “Dress for Success”, Dress as your future career or wear college gear. Thursday, March 2nd, “Woodson is Wild about Reading”, Dress like an animal or wear animal print. Friday. March 3rd, “Favorite Character Friday”, Dress as your favorite book character! All days are optional.
Tuesday, February 28th, Junior Achievement will be visiting with our third grade students. On Wednesday, we welcome guest readers to read to our students in classes from Pre-K3 through second grade.
Thursday, March 2nd, will be our annual Royal Engagement. This year our theme is Heroes and Villains. Come out and see your favorite staff dressed up, play games, receive materials to take home, dinner will be pizza, cookie, and drink. Our event is completely free. Students may dress up to join in the fun. RSVPS were due on February 24th to your teacher. We can’t wait to spend time with your child and family!
Friday, we will celebrate students with good behavior during our February PBIS Incentive, which will be a silent disco and glow party.

Esta semana es nuestra Semana de la Feria del Libro en Woodson. La feria del libro estará abierta todos los días, así como el jueves por la noche durante nuestra Noche de Compromiso Real anual de 5 a 7 p. m. Los estudiantes están invitados a visitar la Feria del Libro durante sus especiales cada día. Se aceptan cheques, efectivo o pueden comparar por línea. No olvide incluir el 6% de impuesto sobre las ventas en su compra.
También celebraremos la "Semana de lectura a través de América" en Woodson. Tendremos días de vestimenta temática, que son gratuitos. Viernes. 3 de marzo, "Viernes de personajes favoritos", ¡vístete como tu personaje de libro favorito! Todos los días son opcionales.
Martes, 28 de febrero,Logró juvenil visitará a nuestros estudiantes de tercer grado. El miércoles, damos la bienvenida a los lectores invitados para que lean a nuestros estudiantes en las clases desde Pre-K3 hasta segundo grado.
El jueves 2 de marzo será nuestro compromiso real anual. Este año nuestro tema es Héroes y Villanos. Students in the cooking club prepared Valentine’s Day yogurt parfaits for all staff this week during their club meeting. Students diced strawberries, crushed Graham crackers and assembled the parfaits.

Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day and in showing our love for our students and staff we will have a free casual day for students and staff. We encourage everyone to dress in Valentine’s colors of red, white, and/or pink. It is our expectation that you will have your children adhere to the casual day guidelines. Students will be sent to the office to call home for a change of clothes if a student is found in violation of the dress code. Students may wear jeans, but they cannot have any holes, rips, shreds, or holes with patches behind them. Students may not wear crop tops, mid drift tops, or tank tops. If students are wearing skirts or shorts, they cannot be more than 2 inches above the knee.

Good afternoon Woodson Wave Families, this is Liz Berry with some updates for the coming week. We would like to give a huge shout out to our Bus Drivers. Our bus drivers are the best, making sure our students are driven to and from school safely. They are great with their communication with our school. Keep up the good work SCPS bus drivers and thank you for all you do.
Just a reminder, if you signed your child up for the first round of after school clubs, they will continue to meet tomorrow.

On Wednesday, February 15th, we will have Coffee & Curriculum for grades 3rd-5th. Please listen for the following times for grade levels; 3rd grade 9-9:45 am, 4th grade 10-10:45 am, and 5th grade from 1:45-2:30 pm. Coffee & Curriculum will be in the cafeteria. You should’ve signed up with your child’s teacher. Teachers will be presenting information about upcoming curriculum and giving out fabulous educational materials to those families present. Please make sure to bring your driver’s license or government ID if you do attend. We have gone from the Raptor safety system to our new visitor management system Navigate 360. Anyone who had their driver’s license stored in the system, will not be converted over and therefore your information is no longer accessible. Please also come a few minutes early to accommodate getting your information in the new system.
Thursday, February 16th, will be a casual day to raise funds for our Band & Choir put on by Mrs. Jones. Students will need to pay $1.00 to participate and staff $2.00 to participate. Again, students will need to follow the casual day guidelines.
Looking ahead to next week, school will be closed on Monday, February 20th, in observance of President’s Day.
