
Next week is our LAST week of school!
Monday is our last FULL day! 5th grade has graduation at 2pm. This is our last uniform attire day as well. (5th are dressing semi-formal for their graduation).
Tues/Wed/Thurs are all half days with dismissal beginning at 12:30 and free casual days.
Tuesday is our Prek-4th grade awards at 9:30.
We are ALMOST to end of another amazing school year! Have a great weekend!

Tomorrow is the last day to register for Elementary Summer School!
Session dates: 6/26-7/27, Mon.- Thurs., 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.
Transportation, breakfast & lunch are provided, and academic focus will be on reading and math skills. Register in PowerSchool by Friday, 6/2/23.

Earlier in the week, Pre-K teachers, paraprofessionals and local childcare and Head Start teachers participated in the final all-day professional development session in a series focused on the Science of Reading. The Early Childhood LETRS (Language Essentials for teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development course builds the early childhood educators foundation in the principals of teaching reading to young minds.



Important reminders about tomorrow, May 25th Sports Day!
Our events start at 9 am and will last until about 2 pm. Families are welcome to attend with their students, but please monitor non-student children.
To prepare for the day, please put sunscreen and bug spray on your students prior to arriving at school and pack/label the bottles to be reapplied later. Students can dress casual but each grade level has a color to wear. 5th-Grey, 4th-Green, 3rd-Purple, 2nd-Red, 1st-Blue, and K/Prek-Yellow! Sneakers is a MUST! Water bottles are encouraged.
Food will be for sale thanks to the Church of God in front of the school near the cafeteria doors. Burgers & Chips are $5, Pulled Pork & Chips are $5 and Soda/Water/Hot Dogs are $1. Popcorn and Cotton Candy will also be for sale for $1 each. Each student will receive a ticket for a free hot dog and one free snack. We will offer this all from 11-12. A snack cart will come around at 2pm for the indoor movie with snacks for sale as well.
The Scholastic Book Fair is open at certain times for each grade level. It will not be open first thing in the morning but at 9:30. It will most likely be closed at the end of the day unless upon request.
We are so pumped to have a day full of fun! Thank you!

Tonight SCPS held an WIDA recognition night for all the students who passed their WIDA test! Nolan from DIS was honored and had Mrs. Pusey and Mrs. Walters there to celebrate his success!!



Thank you to all of those who donated to the Princess Anne American Legion Post 94 last Friday! We raised $122 from Deal Island to help the veterans. 5th grade also wrote thank you notes to the Veterans! It was greatly appreciated.

TIME CORRECTION: The 2022-2023 County Student Recognition Ceremonies on May 24 (WHS - North end schools) and 25th (CHS - South end schools) will be held at 7:00 PM (not at 6pm). Please join us at 7:00 on either night, to recognize students and their achievements made in '22-23!

Hello Deal Island Families!!
We have a very busy week next week! The book fair starts on Monday and will close Friday morning!
Monday there is no school for prek students.
Wednesday there is Wednesday Church after school and Student Recognition Night for 3rd-5th grade students starting at 6 pm. A letter went home for those students being recognized.
Thursday is SPORTS DAY! Families are welcome to join us from 9-3 that day. There is 4H club after school.
Friday is a half day and a free casual day. dismissal begins at 12:30.
Please note we do not have school on Memorial Day, May 29th.

The closed session of the May 16, 2023 Regular Meeting of the Somerset Board of Education has been rescheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open session will begin at 6:00 p.m.

We would like to thank all of our families and community for spoiling our staff for Teacher Appreciation Week! We enjoyed all the goodies that were gifted to us!
Next week, May 15th-19th
Monday our Maui Jack's permission slips are due with cash for those who wish to chaperone. It is also our Parent/Teacher Conference night from 4pm to 6pm. Teachers have reached out on dojo to schedule.
Wednesday we have After School Church and Thursday we have after school 4H. 4H is filled and cannot accept any new applicants.
Friday we have casual for $1. Prek/K is putting on a concert for their families at 2.
Prek will not have school Monday, May 22nd.
Lastly, we are asking for donations of bottled water for our end of the year events! Students are extra thirsty as the weather is getting warmer and we have a few outside events planned. We appreciate any donation, no matter how small! Thank you!
