WESTOVER, MD (December 16, 2024) – Somerset County Public Schools is proud to announce that numerous teachers have been awarded $12,500 in the Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealers "2024 Cash for Class" contest. These awards provide critical support for innovative classroom projects and educational resources, enabling our teachers to enhance learning experiences for all students.
The "Cash for Class" contest invites teachers to submit their classroom project requests via video submissions, showcasing their creativity and dedication to enhancing student learning. This unique approach allows educators to directly convey their vision for how the funds will benefit their classrooms.
The winners and their funded projects include:
Anna Breland, Crisfield Academy & High School – $650 for a color printer to support academic and creative initiatives.
Georgia Justis, Crisfield Academy & High School – $1,000 for the Class of 2026 Community Service Project, fostering student involvement in community efforts.
Vickie Nelson, Crisfield Academy & High School – $1,000 each for the Quill & Scroll International Honor Society and Journalism and Mass Communication classes, promoting excellence in student media and communication.
Hannah Sterling, Crisfield Academy & High School – $1,000 for heart rate monitors to enhance the physical education program.
Erin Walbert, Crisfield Academy & High School – $1,000 for the Crisfield Academy Field Trip Project, supporting experiential learning opportunities.
Crystal Handy, Somerset Intermediate School – $1,000 for Math Incentives, encouraging student engagement in mathematics.
Zachary Bartemy, Somerset County Technical High School – $1,000 for the Vex Robotics Club, inspiring innovation and problem-solving skills.
Wade Chambers, Somerset County Technical High School – $1,000 for the Criminal Justice Program, supporting career-oriented learning.
Jeremy Holland, Somerset County Technical High School – $1,000 for Printing Promotional Items, facilitating his Interactive Media classroom activities and stocking the school store.
Jill Klaverweiden, Princess Anne Elementary School – $1,000 for a Fitness Cooperative Play Center, promoting student health and collaborative play.
Myresha Bevins, Washington Academy & High School – $1,000 for Life Skills Field Trips, preparing students for real-world challenges.
Kolby Noble, Washington Academy & High School – $1,000 for Hands-On Learning with Mrs. Noble, encouraging interactive and practical learning experiences.
In total, these awards demonstrate the dedication of Somerset County Public Schools’ teachers to fostering innovative and impactful educational opportunities for students.
