WESTOVER, MD, March 7, 2024 – The Somerset County Board of Education recently announced the dates of an upcoming community survey to be conducted by the board’s consulting firm, SchoolExecConnect, for the purposes of building the district’s New Superintendent Profile. The profile will be used to screen potential candidates and guide the decision-making process in the selection of the next Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS).

District staff, families and residents of Somerset County are encouraged to visit the SCPS website at www.somerset.k12.md.us between March 25 - 31, 2024 to respond to the community survey. Survey findings and several planned focus group conversations will be used to develop a New Superintendent Profile that will be reported to the Board in early April 2024.

Somerset County Board of Education Chairperson, Mr. Bill McInturff, shared in a recent letter to the school community, “As we move forward, our most important consideration is securing the strongest candidate pool and ultimately the best person to lead our school system into the future.”

SchoolExecConnect will continue to accept and screen applicants of interest for the district’s Superintendent position through April 2024, with the first round of candidate interviews to occur in mid-May. The Somerset Board of Education will select a candidate by June of 2024, and subject to approval by the State Superintendent, the new Superintendent will assume duties by July 1, 2024.
