WESTOVER, MD, March 31, 2023 – Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) recently announced Mrs. Tania Cunningham-Raycrow, Comprehensive Special Education Teacher at Somerset Intermediate School, as the District’s 2023 Teacher of the Year. Cunningham-Raycrow was selected as the Secondary Teacher of the Year finalist. Runner up, Ms. Jennifer Jones, Specials Teacher at Deal Island Elementary School was named 2023 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Winners were announced at the 2023 Somerset Teacher of the Year Banquet hosted at University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Henson Center Ballroom on March 31, 2023.
Cunningham-Raycrow received her Master’s Degree in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from Salisbury University in 2016 and a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1998. She began her career with SCPS as a substitute teacher in 1998 and is currently a special education comprehensive classroom teacher providing hands-on support to students with significant cognitive delays in all core content areas as well as Life Skills; she provides personalized instruction through the SCPS Home and Hospital program and serves as the county’s Alt-assessment facilitator. Tania serves her community through faith-based mentoring programs including college prep initiatives.
Cunningham-Raycrow will go on to compete as Somerset County’s candidate for Maryland Teacher of the Year in the fall.
