Green Engineers is an after school program. We build a SeaPerch, an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) . By building the Seaperch we have the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum. Throughout the project, we learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications. We also learned basic science and engineering concepts and tool safety and technical procedures and are exposed to all the exciting careers that are possible in naval architecture and naval, ocean, and marine engineering.
After our SeaPerch robot was constructed, we participated in the Seaperch Regional Competition at the United States Naval Academy on April 9th. The competition rewards sportsmanship, innovation and presentation skills, as well as mastery of the concepts we applied during the process of building our seaperch. We competed against 134 other teams and having qualified we have earned the opportunity to move on to the 2016 National SeaPerch Challenge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
